THE JOURNEY TO CONQUER CANCER RUN OR WALK

Welcome to the annual Journey to Conquer Cancer Run or Walk, honouring family, friends, and loved ones who are part of the cancer journey – every step of the way!

THIS YEAR, THE JOURNEY IS A VIRTUAL EVENT, WHERE EVERYONE EVERYWHERE IS WELCOME!  You can now safely run or walk your 5K, 3K or 1k distance anywhere… all while continuing to raise critical funds for cancer research!  Although we can’t physically be together, by sharing your experience through our online community, together we can make a difference!

The Journey to Conquer Cancer is a special event for a number of reasons.  Your fundraising dollars go directly towards YOUR CANCER AREA OF CHOICE by supporting any area of cancer research, clinic, lab or patient care program at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.  With the event now taking place virtually, we allow everyone to BE A PART OF THE JOURNEY.

Celebrate on event day with a Live Virtual Opening and Closing Ceremony on Oct. 4th, complete with a Warm Up, Entertainment and unique Social Tools so you can share your experience with your social networks and those you care about!

Registration Fees

The Journey is now completely Virtual.  As a result, registration is now entirely FREE*! This includes:

- Registration as an Individual

- Registration as a Team Captain

- Registration as a Team Member

- Children 

- Even your dog! 

*We still encourage every participant to fundraise so that we can raise funds for life saving cancer research!

Every Participant of the Journey to Conquer Cancer Run or Walk will receive the following:

Sign up now, and you can complete your 1km, 3km, or 5km run or walk from anywhere. Celebrate on October 4th at our opening and closing ceremonies streaming live on Facebook, complete with a warm up session and entertainment.  Once you’ve registered, you can join our Journey to Conquer Cancer Strava Club, which lets you track your run or walk with GPS, share photos, follow friends and more! Plus you can even integrate your Strava progress with your Journey Participant Page!  Just download the free Strava app or sign up at: www.strava.com/clubs/journey2cc.

As we countdown to the big day, it’s time for The Step Up Challenge! It’s a fun bi-weekly challenge that rewards you as you raise funds on your Journey to Conquer Cancer fundraising page. If you complete all five challenges, you’ll get a chance to win one of our awesome grand prizes (including a free cottage vacation!), so be sure to stay tuned and complete every challenge.  Each challenge (except for Challenge #1) must be completed between July 20th and September 27th at midnight to qualify for the reward and to be entered for a prize.

There will be five bi-weekly Step Up Challenges as we count down to the Journey to Conquer Cancer event. If you complete the fundraising challenge, you get the reward – it’s that simple!

 

 

CHALLENGE 1:

Sign up and complete your fundraising page.

The first challenge is an easy one that you can do right now.  Just register for the event, then head over to your fundraising page and ensure that it is 100% completed and you'll get a Journey to Conquer Cancer Magnetic Photo Frame.

 

Our handy Participant Centre will automatically tell you when our fundraising page is 100% up-to-date. Here's what you'll need to do:

Personalize your fundraising page: 25%

Import your contacts: 25%

Send an email asking for support: 25%

Share on social to raise awareness: 25%

CHALLENGE 2:

Give yourself a donation of $25 or more.

 

With everyday masks being a reality, an extra mask can always come in handy. If you complete Challenge 2, you'll get a Journey to Conquer Cancer mask that's perfect for keeping in your car, bag or home for the next time you're heading out for essentials.

CHALLENGE 3:

To encourage your family and friends to donate to your fundraising page, we challenge you to tell your story on social media and raise $50.

 

Be sure to tag @journey2cc on Instagram, or post to any social platform using #journey2cc so we can see your story.  If you're not on Instagram or your account is private, then you can send a photo with your reason for participating to runorwalk@thepmcf.ca to complete the challenge. Once you've completed your challenge, you'll get a Journey the Dog Stuffy!

 


CHALLENGE 4:

Get 3 people to join your Journey team and raise an additional $100 to get a $10 Tim Hortons or Amazon gift card.

CHALLENGE 5:

Raise $250* and you'll get a $25 Amazon or Tim Horton's gift card, PLUS start a Facebook fundraiser** in support of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation and you'll get an additional $50 gift card.

*Raise $250 to complete the challenge and to get the reward. **Facebook Fundraiser must raise a minimum of $50 to qualify for the $50 gift card. Simply take a screen shot of your Facebook fundraiser once you've reached $50 or more and email us the picture, or please email us the link to runorwalk@thepmcf.ca

Timeline - Package Pickup

We are now offering the following dates for you to pick up your Journey to Conquer Cancer or Multiple Myeloma MM5K Walk Soft Cotton T-shirt in advance of event day so you can rep your gear Of course, we will be following social distancing guidelines to ensure we're all staying safe.  You are permitted to pick up shirts for the rest of your team provided you let those team members know that you are doing so in advance (please provide their full names when you arrive so that we can cross them off our list). Here are the times and dates for you to swing by and pick your shirt(s) up - just look for our tent when you arrive!:

 

Mississauga: Tuesday, September 22nd, 3pm-7pm, at the AMJ Campbell Head Office (6140 Vipond Drive, Mississauga)

  

Vaughan: Wednesday, September 23rd, 3pm-7pm, at Boyd Conservation Park (8739 Islington Avenue, Vaughan)

  

Toronto: Thursday, September 24th, 3pm-7pm, at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (610 University Avenue - outside the Cancer Centre, Toronto)

  

Also there will be a surprise incentive as a special thank you at each of these pick up locations!

This year's Journey event is BYOC (bring your own course), so you can run or walk in your own neighbourhood, on a treadmill, or anywhere you'd like!
